Meat Bar

Guy Bazak

At 6:29 a.m. on October 7, when the Hamas attack on Gaza began, Guy was with his platoon mates in the Kissufim camp. A young soldier, in the command platoon of the 51st Golani Battalion, a total of 10 months had passed since his enlistment.

When he and his comrades received a report of terrorists infiltrating Kibbutz Kissufim, they did not hesitate for a moment and immediately made contact. For more than three hours, under heavy fire and outnumbered, Guy and his comrades fought against the Hamas terrorists in the kibbutz. He fought at the forefront of the force, advancing between the courtyards and houses, facing dozens of terrorists, rescuing a comrade who was wounded under fire, until one bullet hit his heart and killed him.

Guy was born in Paris while his family was living there and followed his father's footsteps in studies at the military school - the École Militaire. He grew up in Kochav Yair and stood out from a young age with leadership skills, a developed sense of humor, an especially creative mind and a drive for adventure. He was an enthusiastic member of the Scouts' tribe, which was his second home. Guy loved to cook, played the guitar and piano and especially loved extreme sports. From a young age he loved to snowboard on the snowy slopes and even dreamed of becoming a ski instructor after his release. He loved to travel around Israel, especially in the desert landscapes of the south.

Guy was curious and self-taught and acquired a vast knowledge of many and varied fields of interest during his short life. But Guy loved most of all to be in the company of people. He had a wonderful ability to connect with people, understand people and influence them. "There is no one who did not know and love Guy, this is what his friends said about him."

When he enlisted in the Golani, Guy devoted himself entirely to becoming a fighter. During his training, he wrote a diary about his experiences and the values that were important to him to take from the training.

And so he wrote:

"True friendship is not measured by how comfortable it is, it is not measured by how much fun you have together, and it does not depend on the length of the relationship. Friendship is measured by how much you are willing to give of yourself for your friends, even if it puts you in difficult situations, just from the thought of improving your friend's situation, making it harder for yourself to make it easier for your friend."

Dedication to a cause: In the last seven months, every second and every day has been about one thing - turning me into a warrior.

For the first time in my life, I invested my all in one single goal that was set before me. Every MDS, every MORK, every time I was in a profession, every range and every kilometer in travel. And today this goal was achieved. I became a warrior. The last seven months and the achievement of the goal were concluded with a ceremony and a brown beret, and I am willing to say that today was one of the most exciting and meaningful days of my life. Seeing the proud family, the supportive friends and especially receiving my father's beret, a feeling that is forever etched in my heart. Today, every drop of sweat, every tense muscle, every tiring day became steps that led me to my goal."

Thus he wrote and thus he acted.

Guy was killed in battle, with his fighting and heroism he saved the lives of many residents of Kibbutz Kissufim

Dotan Shimon

Dotan was born and grew up in Elazar. He was the youngest in his family and brother to Guy and  Nofar. When Dotan was ten years old, his sister Nofar was killed in a car accident - a tragedy that left a mark on Dotan's family. Since then, Dotan and his brother Guy became the best of friends. When Dotan matured, he discovered the guitar and a magical connection was created. His music was sensitive and full of soul, just like his character. Friends surrounded him and he gave each one the feeling that he was their best friend and always there for them. Dotan was a counsellor in Bnei Akiva, Dagan Tamar chapter, and would walk 40 minutes every Saturday to be there for the kids. No matter bad weather or exhaustion, Dotan would always come. That was him.

After he finished school, Dotan did a year of service in "Ahuzat Sara", a home for children with disabilities. It is impossible to describe what Dotan was for them there, they did not just love him, they admired him. Afterwards, Dotan followed in his father's footsteps and was drafted into the Givati brigade, Shaked company. He took a paramedic course and an officer course and excelled in both. He was so good that even after the war started, meaning Dotan entered Gaza again and again, his family was not scared. They thought, "This is Dotan, he always survives". And then, Dotan was injured. When his best friend Itai heard the news, he just could not process it. Around the Shabbat table, faced with the fact that Dotan had been injured, he laughed and asked who would hurt Dotan? He must have shot glass. And that was exactly what happened. A week afterwards, Dotan's family discovered that he had indeed been injured after shooting glass. Even when he was injured, he did it with a smile. On Dotan's last Shabbat, everyone in Elazar gathered in his house. They played poker, drank ice coffee and laughed. And in a strange moment, just Dotan, his friend and his mother, Dotan mentioned what he would want on his sticker to describe him.  Without thinking twice, Dotan said, "Don't be a fork in a world of soup". That was him. That's Dotan.

And in a strange moment, just Dotan, his friend and his mother, Dotan mentioned what he would want on his sticker to describe him.  Without thinking twice, Dotan said, "Don't be a fork in a world of soup". That was him. That's Dotan.

Omri Tamari, son of Elad and Sharon, the eldest brother of Amit and Inbar and Lia's partner – was born on May 19, 2005 and grew up in Mazkeret Batya.

The sentence that best describes his character: "Say little and do a lot."

This is how his friend Omar eulogized him, in a sentence that sums it up accurately: "How can you describe in words a person who did everything – without words?"

Omri grew up and was educated on values. His parents say that these values were a lamp to his feet and guided his path in every area of his life. Even as a child, he spent a lot of time outside the home, taking trips, spending time with friends, playing basketball and volunteering – always active, always proactive.

He was an excellent student, independent, sociable, always ready to help others and highly aware of himself and others. He knew how to ask for forgiveness when necessary, never gave up on himself and always strived for the best. He had a profound positive influence on everyone around him, at all times and everywhere.

His greatest love was for Mazkeret Batya. His mother says that when he grew up, he shared with her his regret that he was not born in the town, but moved there in the third grade.
Omri studied at the local "Keshet" school, and since then, he became an inseparable part of a close-knit group of friends. Together they played on the "Hapoel Mazkeret Batya" basketball team and were inseparable. They set themselves group challenges and one of them, the "Sugar Challenge" at the age of 14, symbolised Omri's tremendous willpower: while all his friends broke down, he continued to completely avoid sweet foods - until his last day.

Amit, his younger brother, says that Omri was the perfect older brother - caring, loving, and integrating him into his group of friends as if he were one of them.
Omri had a partner - Lia - and a deep and moving friendship was formed between them.

Every Shabbat was an undertaking for him - he set a busy schedule for himself, stuck to it and at the end sat down to examine himself: What he did well and how he could improve next time.
His mother shares: "There was never a situation where I asked him for something and he didn't see it as a privilege. He always volunteered, always helped, always saw the other person."

Omri aimed high – in every sense: physical, mental and intellectual. He excelled in his studies, studied five units of mathematics, English, biology and neuroscience at the Weizmann Institute, and even received a certificate of excellence from the Ministry of Education.

As part of his personal commitment, he volunteered in the "Paratrak" project – an outdoor vehicle for children with disabilities – as well as at the local sustainability centre.

In the 11th grade, he began preparing for military service and joined the "Expert" combat fitness group. There too, he stood out in his desire for excellence, but unfortunately, he was denied two days of military training by the army.

Upon graduation, he went on a year of service at the "Telamim Center" in Kibbutz Magal. But in the middle of the year, he was drafted for emergency conscription due to the outbreak of war.

During the third conscription, he fell ill and was unable to take the test properly. He was initially assigned to combat engineering, but refused. He was eventually assigned to the Golani Brigade, Battalion 51.

At first, he was disappointed by the assignment, but he soon stood out there too. His friends say that he was always first in exams, and above all, a sensitive, caring person, one who saw others.
During a camp defence duty, when one of the soldiers refused to wake up for guard duty, Omri, calmly and quietly, replaced him, without anger, without complaint.
Even during difficult journeys, he would look back to see who was having difficulty and push him forward, physically and spiritually.

His parents say that if his life had not been cut short, he would certainly have continued in a military career or turned to studying medicine or veterinary medicine.
Omri was about to leave for the commanders' course early, but a month before the end of the training and before he had even received his beret, the unimaginable disaster occurred.

On October 13, 2024, his company returned from a day of volunteering at the Wheel House in Ra'anana and entered the dining room for dinner.
Suddenly, a UAV (unmanned aerial vehicle) was launched from Lebanon that hit the company. Shrapnel hit Omri and his comrades.
Omri was evacuated by helicopter to the hospital, where he fought for his life. But with great sadness, the doctors were forced to pronounce him dead.

Omri – the man who was full of life – passed away without a trace.

At that moment, his mother was at home when she received a phone call from Lia, his partner, informing her that a UAV had crashed at the base where he served.
His mother says that at that moment, she knew in her heart that her son was no more.
His father and brother rushed to Rambam Hospital, where they received the hardest news of all.

His parents say:
"The world lost Omri, and it doesn't know how much it lost. He had a positive impact on everyone around him. He was all good."

Omri, you will always remain in our hearts - the son, the grandson, the older brother, the partner and the friend that anyone would want.
You were always there for us all. You were too good for this world.
You were - and you will be forever.

Ariel was born in Moshav Talmi Yehiel and grew up in Kibbutz Ravdim, after moving with his family when he was one year old. From childhood, he stood out for his joy of life, his broad smile and his love for nature, people and the little experiences in life. He was a smiling and easy-going child, who easily adapted to any change and experimented with new things, even with the flavours in food, when he experimented with crawling to the basket of onions and shallots to bite into them.

Along with his social and educational qualities, Ariel was endowed with culinary talent. His love for food and cooking was great – he enjoyed cooking delicious dishes creatively and combining different cuisines and styles. Among the dishes he prepared were ethnic dishes, elaborate sandwiches, skewers, Shawarma and Italian cuisine. Not only did he have the ability to surprise those around him with culinary creations, he also worked in various restaurants on and off the kibbutz, which contributed to shaping his taste and experience in the field.

Ariel attended the “Hala” elementary school in Kibbutz Kfar Menachem, and continued on to “Tzafit” high school, majoring in environmental science and theatre. He was endowed with self-confidence, natural charisma and quiet leadership, and received many compliments from his teachers and friends – they described him as an “empathetic friend”, “the heart of the group” and “a leader who brings light everywhere”.

Over the years, he also stood out in the field of sports: he played basketball for the “Tzafit Foxes” team until he served as captain, alongside activities in sports such as soccer, capoeira, tennis, cycling and horseback riding. In addition, Ariel was involved in chess and ceramics, and was involved in various social initiatives such as “HaShomer Hatzair” and social education on the kibbutz. Levels.

Heroic Story

Ariel enlisted in the IDF on August 11, 2022 and served as a soldier in the 890th Battalion of the Paratrooper Brigade. He was trained as a “Negvist” and served in the Search and Attack Team (SAT), when his friends called him “Ohana the Great.”

On Saturday morning, October 7, 2023, during a surprise attack by the Hamas terrorist organisation, Ariel and his friends reported to the Nabi Musa base. Following the rocket and missile attacks and acts of violence that erupted in the country, the fighters were sent by helicopter to help Kibbutz Be’eri, which was attacked by hundreds of terrorists. Ariel, who served in the “Ha’Hod” team – the first squad to storm – fought bravely, moving from house to house, rescuing civilians and eliminating eight terrorists. The next day, after more than 30 hours of intense fighting, the team commander entered the house where a terrorist was hiding and decided to take action to save a wounded man. Ariel stormed after the terrorist, and during the operation ,he was hit by a hail of gunfire and fell on the spot, but he kept his smile – the same smile that he was so remembered for.
